Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

The win also means he has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
